boryanus,-a,-um from Bory; named after Jean Baptiste Marcellin Bory de Saint-Vincent(1778-1846), who entered the military service on early age and participated in an expedition under command of captain Baudin to New Holland in 1798, but was forced to rest behind -on account of arosen quarrels- in Reunion; which he geologically explored after his recovery. In 1802 he returned to France via St. Helena and the islands for West African coast, of which journey he wrote a big work entitled: ’Voyage dans les quatre principales iles des mers d’Afrique’. From 1806-1814 he participated in many expeditions of Napoleon, in 1816 he was exiled for his resistance againtst the reactionary administration of the Bourbons. He first settled in Germany, then in Brussel, where he published a description of the Sint Pietersberg at Maastricht (Holland). In 1820 he returned to Paris and in 1829 he was charged with the leadership of an expedition to Morea and the Cyclades, which results he published in 1838. In 1836 he conducted an expedition to Algeria and at the end of his life he occupied himself with the study of the genus Isoetes. Beside the publications mentioned above, he wrote some other publications and was editor of the Dictionaire Classique d’Histoire Naturelle (1822-31), in which he published a number of articles.
